About This Tour

The standard 7-day Langtang Valley Trek begins with a 7 to 8-hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, winding through Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche. From Syabrubesi, the trail climbs steadily over the next three days through dense oak and rhododendron forests via Lama Hotel and up to the traditional stone dwellings of Langtang Village before entering the wide glacial sanctuary of Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870 meters. On the fifth day, trekkers undertake an early morning acclimatization climb up high ridges like Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri for breathtaking panoramic views of Langtang Lirung and surrounding glaciers before beginning the return journey. The trek concludes with a swift two-day descent back to Syabrubesi followed by a return drive to Kathmandu, requiring standard permits like the Langtang National Park entry permit and a TIMS card.

Frequently Asked Questions

The trek is rated as moderate. While it doesn't require technical climbing skills, it involves walking 5 to 7 hours a day over steep ascents, stone staircases, and uneven mountain terrain. It is suitable for beginners with a decent level of physical fitness and good cardiovascular endurance.

The highest elevation point is the summit of Tserko Ri (4,984m / 16,352ft) or Kyanjin Ri (4,773m), which you climb during the acclimatization day. The overnight stop at Kyanjin Gompa sits at 3,870 meters (12,697ft).

Yes, you need two mandatory permits:
Langtang National Park Entry Permit: Approx. NPR 3,000 (approx. USD $23)
TIMS Card (Trekkers' Information Management System): Approx. NPR 2,000 (approx. USD $15)

The prime seasons are Spring (March to May)—when rhododendrons bloom and weather is clear—and Autumn (September to November), which offers stable weather, crisp mountain views, and comfortable daytime temperatures.

You can trek independently (solo) without a guide, as the trail is straightforward, well-marked, and heavily traveled. However, many trekkers choose to hire a local guide or porter-guide for safety, cultural insights, and to support the local economy.

The trek starts in Syabrubesi, which is reached via a 7 to 8-hour drive from Kathmandu. You can take a local public bus or a shared jeep from the Machhapokhari bus park, or alternatively charter a private jeep for more comfort and flexibility.

Accommodation consists of rustic, twin-share teahouses run by local families. Rooms are basic (typically featuring two single beds with a mattress and blanket). Food-wise, teahouses serve hearty meals, most notably Dal Bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables), noodles, momos, soups, and Tibetan bread.

Yes. Because the trek climbs past 3,000 meters, Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a risk. Mitigate this by ascending gradually, staying well-hydrated (drinking 3+ liters of water daily), avoiding alcohol, and completing the scheduled acclimatization climb at Kyanjin Gompa.

There are no reliable ATM machines once you leave Kathmandu. You should carry enough cash (Nepalese Rupees) to cover your meals, bottled water, Wi-Fi or device charging fees, hot showers, and tips. Budget roughly NPR 3,000 to 5,000 (~$25–$40 USD) per day for independent expenses.

An Unforgettable Trek with Friends

My group of friends and I chose Shreeman Narayan Worldwide Tours for our 7-day Langtang Valley trek, and we could not be happier with our choice. From the moment we landed in Kathmandu, we felt completely taken care of. Mr. Madhu, the boss of the company, arranged excellent service to our trip, customizing the itinerary to match our group's pace and preferences. Our guide and porters were incredibly fun, supportive, and knowledgeable, making the long days of walking feel like a breeze. The views of Langtang Lirung were breathtaking, and the teahouses Mr. Madhu selected for us were clean and welcoming. If you are planning a trek in Nepal with your mates, look no further than this fantastic team.
